Saint Laurent / Zweigelt - Puszta Libre - Claus Preisinger - Austria 2021

A wild yet lively and very drinkable red wine blend from Austria that's made from Saint Laurent and Zweigelt. Delicate tannins and a vibrant red and black berried fruit character make this an excellent wine for the table. Drinks well with a slight chill.

Claus Preisinger is a biodynamic winemaker who feels strongly that making natural wine with sustainable practices is not only a moral responsibility, but it makes for some pretty great wine too. All his wines are fabulous, but I like this one for its versatility. Puszta in Hungarian means the "wide free land" and that is nicely embodied in this wine. It is made in stainless steel using ambient yeast and aged in large foudre. A blend of Zwiegelt and St. Laurent with a beautiful dark cherry color and black fruit flavors to match, this wine is light and bright with smooth tannins making it delicious and easy to pair with many different types of food. Drink this slightly chilled and I highly suggest pairing it with your roasted chicken of choice.
