Note: You can transform this recipe to vegan by simply changing the pork shoulder to tempeh or firm tofu and reducing the cooking time to 2 hrs.

  • 3 lb bone-less pork shoulder*
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp course ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 Tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 sour oranges quartered and squeezed*
  • 1 lime quartered and squeezed*
  • 1 lemon quartered and squeezed*
  • 1 cup water

  1. Combine all the dry seasoning and rub all over the pork shoulder.
  2. Heat the slow cooker to High and add the seasoned pork, fruit, juice and water.
  3. Set the slow cooker for 6 hours and turn the shoulder over at the half way mark.
  4. At the finish of time, the meat should be very tender so that you can pull it to the desired size you want.
  5. Add the meat back to the liquid and allow to simmer on low for 30 minutes.Enjoy in many ways! Entree suggestions include with grains and beans, wraps with salad greens or as a sandwich.
